Middle Township School District Awarded $5000 worth of tools for being a FIRST Mid-Atlantic FRC rookie team

Cape May Court House – The Middle Township High School (MTHS) Robotics Team accepted a delivery of tools from FIRST Mid-Atlantic Robotics worth almost $5,000 on Wednesday morning, Feb. 23. Not only did they receive a HUSKY Workbench and Toolbox already filled with tools, they were also given a 3D desktop printer and multiple RYOBI hand and bench tools.
MTHS was chosen to receive the Argosy Tool and Equipment Foundation Grant through their participation with the FIRST Mid-Atlantic Robotics program. The equipment will help the MTHS robotics team enhance their skills in building robots and other devices. The school has since partnered with Lower Township High School’s Robotics team, who received the same tools through the grant Wednesday morning.
“This is an amazing opportunity for our students and the future of our robotics program,” said MTSD superintendent Dr. Dave Salvo. “We can’t thank FIRST Mid-Atlantic, Herb and his team, enough for taking the time to travel all the way down to Middle Township and bring this generous donation of tools. Seeing our students’ faces light up when they were unloading, the excitement was contagious. I can’t wait to see how the students can build on their skills with the help of these new tools.”
The MTHS robotics team is one of six rookie teams within the district competing in the FIRST Mid-Atlantic Robotics Competition next month. They will compete against 35 other teams on Saturday, March 25, in Tabernacle, New Jersey with the support of their advisors, John Richardson and Chris Castor. There will be 12 rounds in this competition. MTHS will compete again the first week of April in Bensalem, PA, with hopes of making it to the district championship also held in April. The contestants will be judged by numerous elements such as coopetition, knowledge of robotics, professionalism, engineering, safety, quality and much more.
FIRST Mid-Atlantic began in October 2010 with the encouragement of FIRST, Manchester, NH, a global robotics community preparing students for the future as the world’s leading youth-serving nonprofit advancing STEM education. Their mission is to promote and implement FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) programs for the benefit of all FRC teams in the region which spans all of Delaware, New Jersey, and counties in Pennsylvania from Harrisburg eastward. They are a New Jersey Non-Profit Corporation with IRS 501(c)(3) exemption as a charitable organization.
