Middle Township School District announces a new partnership with Discovery Education
Discovery Education and Middle Township School District Partnership
Cape May Court House, NJ — Middle Township School District (MTSD) announced a new partnership with Discovery Education, a global leader in educational technology serving teachers and students worldwide, in order to build on the district’s current science instruction for middle school students.
Through the collaboration, teachers in grades 6-8 will be empowered to develop their science lessons with an engaging new suite of dynamic digital services, hands-on resources, and professional learning opportunities supporting these resources’ integration into instruction. Discovery Education’s state-of-the-art digital platform supports instruction wherever it takes place.
Middle Township’s curriculum and opportunities offered to students are designed to help them see beyond the boundaries of traditional education and faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to engage in meaningful discussions and activities that enable them to translate academic lessons into real world solutions.
“We feel it is incredibly important that our academic lessons authentically connect with their ‘real world’ applications,” said Dr. Toni Lehman, MTSD’s Director of Curriculum and Instruction. “Discovery Education’s flexible digital resources help us accomplish this goal while ensuring our teachers have multiple ways of reaching our diverse community of learners. I’m excited at the opportunities this partnership brings our teachers and students.”
To help facilitate these types of learning experiences in their middle school science classrooms, MTSD administrators and science teachers who were led by Principal Jeff Ortman sought a suite of engaging digital and print resources that promote connections between classroom learning and the outside world and are aligned to the applicable science education standards. After a review of several possible options offered by Discovery Education, the district selected two services, The Discovery Education Platform and Discovery Education Science Techbooks.
The Platform connects educators to a vast collection of high-quality, standards-aligned content, ready-to-use digital lessons, intuitive quiz and activity creation tools, and professional learning resources. The Discovery Education team continues adding, contextualizing, and organizing exciting new content from trusted partners and timely and relevant resources to the platform each month in response to current events and the ever-evolving needs of educators.
The Discovery Education Science Techbook series is a comprehensive, research-backed science solution for grades K-12. Used in classrooms across the United States and Canada and delivered through Discovery Education’s K-12 platform, the Science Techbook drives engagement with exclusive phenomena and interactive content. Virtual and hands-on investigations, STEM activities, and a variety of instructional supports enhance the delivery of impactful, blended instruction, in person or at a distance. Teacher editions also provide flexible pacing options, embedded teacher notes, and Pathways for Learning to support diverse learners.
