Cape May Court House, NJ – The Middle Township School District (MTSD) inducted six new members into the district’s Hall of Fame at halftime during the most recent football game against the Bridgeton Bulldogs on Oct. 13.
Inductees included Bob Metz (‘59), Gloria Hodges (staff), Markal Ginyard (‘05), Steve Seymour (‘88), Dr. PD Moore (‘01) and Damon Troy (‘94).
“We are honored to be able to recognize these individuals, including those who are no longer with us,” said MTSD Superintendent Dr. David Salvo. “Bob, Gloria, Markal, Steve, PD, Damon, and all the others in the Hall of Fame who have come before them are outstanding individuals representing Middle Township and all the amazing things that come out of our district. This induction is just a small token of our appreciation.”
Metz was an MTSD student, longtime teacher, coach and administrator. In addition to working for his home school district, Metz served in the U.S. Army Reserves, retiring as colonel.
Hodges comes from a family of educators and was a teacher and guidance counselor at Middle Township High School (MTHS) for 43 years, retiring in 2007. Hodges has continued to serve her community as a member of the Board of Education since 2013.
Ginyard excelled on the football and track and field teams at MTHS. He continued on to Kean University where he played football and earned an accounting degree. Ginyard left his friends, family and community too soon after a tragic car accident in 2010. He was 23.
Seymour was a standout on the MTHS Panthers baseball team. He was drafted in the 1990 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft by the New York Mets organization.
During Moore’s time with MTSD, he was as dedicated to the classroom as he was in the weightroom and described as a true leader on and off the field. He developed into a National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I player and was a standout at Towson University.
In his senior year, Troy led the MTHS Panthers football team to its first-ever playoff berth. He also excelled in the high hurdles and shot put on the track and field team. After high school, Troy played two football seasons at Pennsylvania State University before transferring to Rowan University and leading the Profs to back-to-back national championship games.
Inductees and spectators were able to celebrate the Panthers’ now 6-1 winning streak in the West Jersey Football League matchup at the John Roberson Athletic Complex at Memorial Field.
Nominations for the MTSD Hall of Fame will be considered for any person who graduated from or was employed with the district and who has brought honor to the community. Nominees should have demonstrated outstanding athletic and/or nonathletic accomplishments, have served our community or country in truly outstanding ways, or have demonstrated excellence within their vocations. Nominees can be nominated by themselves or others.
