Cape May Court House, N.J. – Residents can chat with Middle Township Public Schools Superintendent Dr. David Salvo about the district’s Sept. 17 bond referendum during an informal community event.

“Dessert with Dr. Dave” will be held on Wednesday, July 17, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Court House Diner, 218 N. Main St.

The event offers community members an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the vote that seeks funding for large-scale improvements at district schools.

Light refreshments will be served. Space is limited and RSVPs are requested by calling 609-465-1800, ext. 3101, or by registering at bit.ly/dessertwithdrdave

MTPS is proposing improvements that include building additions and renovations to meet students’ instructional needs, such as a growing demand for full-day, tuition-free pre-k and individualized learning support. At Memorial Field, a plan to swap grass for turf would increase playing time for students and local recreation leagues.

A voter-approved referendum will give the district permission to borrow money by selling bonds. The financing tool provides up-front funding, much the way a homeowner can make improvements through taking out a home equity loan.

If the referendum passes, the state will pay $3 million toward the $26.5 million project costs. The owner of a home assessed at Middle Township’s average of $251,010 could expect an annual tax impact of around $165.

All registered voters in Middle Township can vote at the polls on Tuesday, Sept. 17, or by mail on or in the weeks before the election date.
