CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, NJ – Middle Township Public Schools Superintendent Dr. David Salvo announced he will retire at the end of the school year. Salvo, who joined the district in 1995, has been the superintendent since 2014.
During his tenure, Salvo supported ventures that accelerated the district’s growth and students’ success. He formed a partnership with Atlantic Cape Community College that allows high school students to earn college credits for a fraction of the cost.
Under Salvo’s leadership, MTPS and Cape Assist, another community partner, established South Jersey’s only recovery high school, Coastal Preparatory High School (Coastal Prep). One of only three facilities of its kind in the state, Coastal Prep provides students with a safe, non-judgmental environment where they can continue their education and receive support while in recovery from substance misuse.
“I will always be proud to be a part of the Middle Township Public Schools family,” said Salvo. “It has been rewarding to see the district change and grow through the years to meet the needs of all our students.”
In 2022, Salvo was named Cape May County Superintendent of the Year and colleagues highly regard him as an educator who is committed to the students, families and communities he serves.
“Dr. Salvo has been such an important part of our school community for decades,” said Middle Township Board of Education president Stephanie Thomas. “His focus on and sincere passion for all students of our district, and his dedication will continue to inspire and influence administrators and staff. We will not only miss his leadership, but we will also miss his humor and quick wit that always brought smiles to our faces. We’re wishing him the best of luck in retirement.”
Before becoming superintendent, Salvo worked in the district as an assistant principal, principal and the assistant superintendent of support services. A Hammonton native, Salvo is a graduate of Glassboro State College (Rowan University). He lives in Ocean View with his wife, Jennifer, and their blended family of six children.
The Board of Education aims to begin the superintendent search process this fall, with the goal of having a new superintendent in place by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Updates will be communicated through district channels.
