Cape May Court House, NJ – Going to the principal’s office doesn’t always have the most positive connotation. But Middle Township High School principal Dr. Sharon Rementer is changing the narrative by bringing her office to the kids.

Rementer says her “mobile office” helps her build relationships, gives her an opportunity to be seen and keeps her active in the building. “The paperwork can wait,” said Rementer. “Relationships before rigor.”

Rementer brings her laptop, important paperwork for the day and her cellphone in case of emergencies while rolling through the halls and popping into classrooms throughout the day. She uses her laptop as she observes classrooms and takes the opportunity to give instructors immediate feedback.

“I can truly be in two places at once,” said Rementer. “My goal for this is to really be present in the lives of our students and staff. I’m not stuck behind a desk.”

Rementer kicked off the initiative in December, so her mobile office is decked out with festive decorations. “Students are so excited about the lights and holiday décor. I get their attention and can start up a conversation almost immediately,” said Rementer.

Before she became the high school principal in 2022, Rementer served as the district’s Athletic Director and Assistant Vice Principal at Middle Township High School. She started her career at Middle Township School District in 2006 as a kindergarten teachers’ aide, then led her own classrooms as a second-grade teacher and special-education teacher before being promoted to AD in 2017.

“It’s been a pleasure having Sharon part of the Middle Township family over the years,” said MTSD Superintendent Dr. Dave Salvo. “She’s brought a lot of great ideas and initiatives to our team and we’re grateful for her ability to not only foster creativity, but also implement new ideas that benefit our students and staff.”

Rementer plans to keep her office rolling throughout the remainder of the school year and beyond.
