Christian Mortellite was previously an assistant coach at Stockton University and played pro basketball in Portugal
Cape May Court House, NJ – Middle Township High School has chosen a new boys basketball coach who brings a college coaching background and international playing experience to the role.
Christian Mortellite also will draw on his distinguished college playing career to lead the Panthers program.
Most recently, Mortellite spent three seasons as assistant coach at Stockton University, where he helped lead the Ospreys to 52 victories and two NCAA Tournament appearances. Prior to joining Stockton’s staff, he served as an assistant boys basketball coach at his alma mater, Hammonton High School, further developing his passion for mentoring student-athletes and building successful programs.
Before coaching, Mortellite competed professionally in Portugal, playing for Galitos Barreiro during the 2018-19 season and Lusitania Expert during the 2019-20 campaign. His international experience provides a valuable perspective on the game and player development.
A standout at Bloomsburg University, Mortellite is one of the most accomplished players in program history. He established school records with 2,037 career points, 314 three-pointers, 441 free throws and an .887 career free-throw percentage. He led the Huskies in scoring during each of his four seasons, earned All-PSAC East First Team honors three times, and led all of NCAA Division II in three-pointers made per game during the 2016-17 season.
“We are excited to welcome Coach Mortellite to the Middle Township family,” said Josh McCarty, Assistant Principal of Athletics. “His experience as both a high-level player and coach, combined with his passion for developing student-athletes, makes him an outstanding fit to lead our boys basketball program. We are confident he will build on the Panthers’ tradition of excellence, while fostering a culture of hard work, accountability and pride.”
Mortellite is eager to begin his work with the Panthers program.
“I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to lead the Middle Township boys basketball program,” said Mortellite. “I look forward to building meaningful relationships with our student-athletes, working alongside our school and community, and leading a program that competes with passion, discipline and integrity. My priority is to help players grow both on and off the court. I am excited to be a Panther and am ready to get to work.
