WHY AREN’T MEALS FREE FOR THE 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR?
The USDA knew many people found themselves struggling financially during the pandemic. They did not want school food to be a concern for families, so they passed waivers which allowed school districts to feed students’ free breakfast and lunch.
As things have been slowly getting back to “normal,” Congress decided against extending those waivers for another year. As a result of this, we will be returning back to regular priced breakfast and lunch for the 2022-2023 school year.
Be sure to complete the meal benefit application, which will also be sent home in September with students. Visit the district website at www.middletownshipppublicschools.org to apply online.
